Bags of Love

If you have been following my blog for awhile you will be familiar with Sweet Peas, our little in House Quilting Bee. Maxie, one of our members turned 80 today. She invited us to Morning Tea at Eruption Cafe in Sun court.

On arrival we  presented her Birthday Fat Quarters. See that pink fabric at her finger tips. Maxie’s choice for this Birthday.

What she didn’t know was we had a bigger surprise for her. We have all been busy stitching away to make her this quilt:

I took this photo at the Rose Garden here in Taupo. I was inside the Pergola which was good because the light was filtered. I had to pin it over a wisteria vine at the top – that’s what the bump is top left.

Lots of texture :

Everybody has contributed in some way. Some of us made bag blocks, some made the other blocks. Peggy pieced it all together and provided the backing. I quilted it and Andreena supplied the binding. I quilted every bag in a different way. We all used our favourite colours and style of fabric to make our blocks.

We hope that when Maxie looks at this she will remember what a vibrant, diverse group of quilters she has as her friends.

The Pattern is called “Her Bags are Packed” designed by Judi Madsen of Green Fairy Quilts. This quilt is HUGE. 77”x85”. I didn’t take that small detail in when we started! We chose to make this for Maxie because she’s mad about handbags and loves to shop. We have called our version “Bags of Love”.

For my fellow quilters out there you may like to know I used Superior Threads new Magnifico Thread on this quilt. It is lovely to use and has a super sheen. I used colours the colours Honey and Scottish Thistle.

The Butterscotch thread is going to be a new favourite. It’s one of those colours that sits well across lots of different fabrics.

The Mauve thread is a good multi purpose colour too as it sits well on blues, purples, greys.

It has been a pretty exciting day.

Thanks for visiting.
