Spring is in the air

We have had a couple of glorious days. Clear blue sky but the air is still cool. Perfect!

I took a stroll around some of the garden today and captured these lovelies:

However the cats don’t think it’s quite Spring yet. In the Winter we had a little routine going. After they had their morning snack I would warm up their wheat bags for them. This morning Koko (aka the Princess) gave me a few cross “merrrrows” because I didn’t have the wheat bags heated. I jumped to and did my duty. I guess it was a little chilly. Here they are all cosy. They do so need a rest after a hard night sleeping!

Crinoline Ladies II

The Ladies are finished and ready to go home. First they wanted to take some air:

Can you see our neighbours Cotoneaster – the perfect match for Moira’s quilt.

DSCF3434

The ladies are so pretty. Moira’s work so accurate. Several people have asked if her buttonhole stitch is hand done, it’s so perfect. Moira did all the stitching on her Janome.I am a Pfaff fan but I have to say that I think Janome has the best buttonhole stitch.

DSCF3438

I stitched the outer borders with vines and leaves, between the blocks I did my single leaf vine.

I am very happy with the end result. I think Moira is too.

Crinoline Ladies

Do you remember Moira’s Crinoline Ladies quilt?

I’m so excited because she has asked me to quilt it. It’s so pretty, and made so nicely too. A real pleasure to quilt.

Moira is adding buttons for flowers when the quilting is finished.

These lovely ladies are favourites with me so I am linking on over to Claudia at Mockingbird Hill Cottage for her favourite things linky party.

Our flirtatious neighbour…

We have a handsome Dude in our neighbourhood.

We call him Tommy.

Today he was at our  front door just waiting to be invited in.He seemed to know there were lots of ladies inside.

He’s sleek, he’s handsome (and he knows it!) and obviously very keen to share his charms!

Hard to resist the charm assault!

Yep, he’s the Clark Gable of the cat world.

Swoon

Come and see what……

The Sweet Peas have been doing:

Debbie has been busy quilting her Solid Stars and Strings. Pretty cool quilting!

DSCF3358

Moira had her wee Grand daughter to stay. They decided to work on a craft project together, a country style wall hanging featuring hens.Shania obviously thought Nana’s hens were pretty exotic, look at the colour she picked for the eggs!!

DSCF3360

Now I did some research about eggs colours and I reckon Nana’s hens are Easter Eggers

Easter Egger, Ameraucana, and Araucana breeds, will lay eggs in colours ranging from khaki green to sky blue, to pink tinted, to occasionally lavender tinted.

Rochelle has made some Christmas table mats:

DSCF3372

Theses mats have a secret feature, she has made sleeve so a solid table mat can slide inside to give the mat stability:

DSCF3376

Isn’t that clever?

Peggy has been busy with Polka Dots and Cup Cakes. She has made these aprons which are going to our niece in Melbourne. These aprons are reversible – you can read more about them on Peggy’s Blog

DSCF3383

That wasn’t enough though, she went on to make a quilt top with the same style of fabrics:

DSCF3385

Look at this little cute topsy turvy block.

DSCF3386

I have been to a Trapunto class, this is the piece I made. I am glad I have learnt this technique – but I don’t know that I would be in a hurry to do more.

DSCF3400

About 15 years ago I decided to teach myself how to do freezer paper applique. Like most people I started with a nice soft heart. I had some pansy fabric so I appliqued a pansy heart onto a  calico block:

DSCF3399

Don’t you just love those Hoffman Pansy fabrics? I wish they still made them.Of course one was not enough so with nine patches added a very pretty little quilt – only 15 years in the making!

This one’s for me!

We also had a little session learning how to make Dream Balls.

I know, I know ages ago I promised to show you how to make these. I’ll get onto it.

….and now for something completely different……….

Tracey has made this lovely quilt for her Mum. The fabrics in it are just divine. Such pretty colours and so soft and smooth, All over vines, fronds, leaves and the occasional flowers perfect for this quilt.DSCF3339

DSCF3340

The stems are ruched raw edge applique. I popped small swirls along side those to hold the quilt down so they would pop.

DSCF3342

The flowers are also raw edge applique. Two layers of fabric there. I asked Tracey if she would mind if I pebbled the centre of the petals. She said “yes ok”. I think the flowers look  A – MA – ZING!!!
